Ylva holds a Masters of Science in biomedical chemistry from Linnaeus University in Sweden, a PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from the University of Queensland and a Master of Industrial Property from the University of Technology, Sydney.
After completing her PhD studying the role of sialyltransferases during cancer, Ylva worked on a collaborative project at the University of Queensland’s Centre for Drug Design and Development (3D Centre). This project, in partnership with biotechnology firm Alchemia, focused on the development of novel technologies for the production of a new class of carbohydrate-based molecules. Leading on from this position, Ylva held Post Doctoral Fellow and Research Scientist positions at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). During her time with the CSIRO, Ylva was a member of the CRC for Innovative Dairy Products studying genes and proteins associated with disease resistance. Her fields of expertise include cell and molecular biology, protein biochemistry, immunology and bioinformatics.
Ylva subsequently completed a Masters of Industrial Property at the University of Technology Sydney and qualified and registered as an Australian patent and trade marks attorney during her time at another attorney firm. Prior to joining Cullens in 2012, Ylva worked as a commercialisation manager in the life sciences team of a Queensland-based university commercialisation company
